1. Wildlife Park - follow the lake in front of the hostel for 30 minutes and you will come to a bird sanctuary where you can see many of our native birds including the Takahe. Park is free and open all the time. Cross the road here and wander back through Ivan Wilson Park which has many interesting trails and views.

2. Brod Bay - Walk (45mins), bike or drive to the start of the Kepler Track and 1.5 hrs will take you to where the track starts to climb Mount Luxmore. Return same way. Walk is through rain forest with great views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

3. Rainbow Reach to Shallow Bay - 3 hours return. Easy flat walking through forest, past Kepler Bog ending up at Shallow Bay on the edge of Lake Manapouri for a great view across the lake

4. Key Summit - Drive or bus (1hr) to "The Divide" start of the Routeburn track, 1.5hrs climbing takes you out on the mountain tops for stunning views and alpine botanical life.

5. Lake Marion - One of the prettiest walks in Fiordland, starts about 1 km down the Hollyford road on the way to Milford, cross the swing bridge and 10 mins takes you past a wonderful waterfall, then climbing for 1.5hrs takes you to a beautiful hanging valley and small lake wreathed in mountain tops. Track is a bit rough and muddy sometimes.
